New features added in The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra
New clothing items
There will be over one hundred new clothing items added in The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra. Spice up your adventure by changing your look with your favorite items!
New Pokédexes
Many Pokémon not found in Galar’s Wild Area make their home on the Isle of Armor and the Crown Tundra, the areas that you’ll be able to newly explore. Your Pokédex will be updated so that you can register even more Pokémon as you discover them! In The Isle of Armor, you’ll be aiming to complete the Isle of Armor Pokédex, while in The Crown Tundra, you’ll be working on the Crown Tundra Pokédex!
Max Raid Battles against new Pokémon
There are Pokémon Dens on the Isle of Armor and the Crown Tundra, just like in the Wild Area. Check out a Pokémon Den that has a pillar of light coming out of it, and you’ll be able to participate in a Max Raid Battle! These are battles where you’ll team up with three other Trainers to take on a Dynamax Pokémon.
New designs have been added for League Cards!
Pokémon Trainers in the Galar region make League Cards to introduce themselves. Of course, they are also used on the Isle of Armor and the Crown Tundra, the settings of the Expansion Pass.
As you progress in your adventure in The Isle of Armor (Part 1) and The Crown Tundra (Part 2), backgrounds, effects, and frames that were not available in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be added.
You can change your League Card using Rotomi’s Card Maker feature. Use these new designs as well as new outfits and hair styles, and create your unique League Card to show off your individuality!
New features added in The Isle of Armor
Items that will help you on your adventure
You’ll find new items that will help you along your journey, like an Exp. Charm that’ll come in handy when leveling up your Pokémon!
The Cram-o-matic
The dojo on the Isle of Armor houses a unique take on recycling in the form of a device called the Cram-o-matic. If you feed it four items, it will combine them and give you a new item in exchange. You can receive any of a variety of items, including Poké Balls, PP Ups, and more. Some combinations might produce rare items!
New tutor moves
Completely new tutor moves will also be available on the Isle of Armor. You can have your Pokémon learn these moves in exchange for Armorite Ore, a substance that you can find on the Isle of Armor through Max Raid Battles and other means.
Burning Jealousy
Burning Jealousy is a new Fire-type move that can be taught starting with this expansion. When it hits, it deals damage to all opposing Pokémon and burns all opposing Pokémon that have had their stats boosted during the turn.
Grassy Glide
Grassy Glide is a new Grass-type move that can be taught starting with this expansion. This move has high priority when used on Grassy Terrain!
Max Soup
Max Soup is a special dish made from rare ingredients you can gather on the Isle of Armor. If a Pokémon with great hidden potential drinks Max Soup, it will become a special Pokémon capable of Gigantamaxing.
Some Pokémon you’ve already been traveling with may be able to gain the ability to Gigantamax as well.
A new way to battle: Restricted Sparring
The Isle of Armor will also introduce a way to challenge yourself to some new battles! With Restricted Sparring, you’ll be limited in what types of Pokémon you can use and forced to battle under set conditions! Give it a try, and give some of your Pokémon that are normally overlooked a chance to shine!
New features added in The Crown Tundra
Explore Pokémon Dens in Dynamax Adventures!
In Dynamax Adventures, you’ll team up with three other Trainers to explore a Pokémon Den where Dynamax Pokémon are said to lurk!
Instead of your regular Pokémon team, you and your fellow Trainers will choose rental Pokémon to bring along into the depths of the den. If you encounter a wild Dynamax Pokémon during your exploration, you’ll need to work together with your three teammates in a Max Raid Battle! If you win the battle, you’ll have the chance to catch the Pokémon, and one Trainer on the team can swap the newly caught Pokémon in for the Pokémon they had before. But if you lose a battle, you’ll be ejected from the den!
Try swapping out your Pokémon as you explore so you’ll be prepared to face whatever comes next as you seek the Legendary Pokémon said to lurk in the depths. And if you want to delve even deeper into the den, Endless Dynamax Adventures may be the thing for you! Endless Dynamax Adventures let you keep on going until you lose a battle.
Give them a try if you want to test your mettle.
Legendary Pokémon from past games are back!
With The Crown Tundra, you’ll be able to encounter every Legendary Pokémon that’s appeared in the main series of Pokémon games! Find Legendary Pokémon during your travels in the Crown Tundra or while you’re on Dynamax Adventures, and you’ll have a chance to catch them! Some Legendary Pokémon appear only in Pokémon Sword with the Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass, while others appear only in Pokémon Shield with the Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass.
Get ready to take part in the Galarian Star Tournament!
Once you progress far enough in your adventure in The Crown Tundra, you’ll be able to participate in the Galarian Star Tournament, held in the city of Wyndon! This tournament is Leon’s brainchild, intended to fire up the spirits of the Galar region. Once you accept Leon’s invitation, you’ll be able to pick a partner from among the many Trainers you’ve met throughout your adventures in Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield—as well as the Expansion Pass—and team up for a Multi Battle tournament! Depending on who your partner and your opponents are, you may glimpse new sides of some familiar faces!
The Ability Patch: A new useful item for raising Pokémon
In The Crown Tundra, you may get new items called Ability Patches. They’re hard to come by but worth the effort. If you use one on a Pokémon, its Ability will change to its species’ Hidden Ability, if it has one! With an Ability Patch and a helping of Max Soup from the Isle of Armor, you can bring out the Hidden Ability of the first partner Pokémon you chose at the beginning of Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield and give it the capability to Gigantamax as well.
